Harry Potter - seminal work or germinal waste?

The literary world, and not to mention the publishing, marketing, business worlds have all been affected to some degree by Potter mania. Record sales, mind boggling distribution, sales and marketing have assured that Harry Potter "apparates" into your possession. I am sure a simple search on Google can link you up with some of this information. You can also visit [here] and [here]. I have quoted two sentences here for your benefit - 10 million copies were sold in the first 24 hrs of trade and this was Amazon's biggest selling product in almost ten years of its existence. But, there are voices of dissent - quoting Forbes.com, "Enormous sales are not a sure-fire sign of literary merit.....". I tend to whole heartedly agree here.
